I attended this march. As I was handing out leaflets for the CWI Socialist Party I got to see a lot of it and although it was not as big as the largest demonstration in British history, it seemed a lot bigger than the 20 000 reported by the BBC. ITN gave both the organiser's figure of 200 000 and the police figure and showed photographs of the crowd which indicated that it was very large. More importantly they gave some of the arguments of the demonstrators which the BBC ignored. They showed Tony Benn pointing out that the major looting in Iraq was the seizure of the oil fields by American corporations.

It made sense to march against the war despite the premature reports that it was "all over." There is every danger that the illegal occupation of Iraq is a prelude to the spreading of the war to Syria, to Iran and possibly to North Korea. A world war of the rich against the poor. It must be stopped.
